Toba Tek Singh.Continuous fog and frost had caused great loss to the farmers in Kamalia and Pirmahal tehsels who had sown vegetables and water melon on their lands located near rive Ravi bank while the citrus orchard owners in Toba and Gojra tehsels also faced damage to their produce for same reason.During a survey by this correspondent, farmers of Kamalia and Pirmahal areas Rana Amjad,Mehr Akram,Razzaq Panwaar and Malik Asaim told that they had sown water melon on hundreds of sandy land for which they had to work hard as it needed a six to eight feet deep bore to put in its seeds and now when its creeping stems had grown and spread, the heavy fog and frost which continued for two weeks, completely destroyed the crop. They told that their crops had been destroyed previously due to river Ravi flood while now when they sowed the water melon and other vegetables, the weather again caused reaching great financial loss to them.

When contacted Kamalia agriculture department deputy district officer Choudry Khalid Mahmood told that water melon and crops of vegetables of such big farmers who had sown in tunnel sheds had faced no loss however the small farmers who had sown water melon or vegetables in the open and had simply covered them with dried grass or branches of wild bushes had no doubt faced destruction of the plants.

The orchards owners of Toba and Gojra areas who were known for best quality production of kinnoo including Mian Manzoor,Naeem Fateh,Fayaz Ahmad and Mian Arif told that due to fog, the tails of branches where kinno is located had been spoiled and more than 50 percent kinno had been fallen on ground due to weakening of ends of branches and the fallen kinnoo could not be sold in market as a result they had faced heavy financial loss.
The growers of wheat were however satisfied that fog had caused some type of help in growth of wheat plants.
